I’ve been playing a lot of Arknights Endfield on Deck. I had to waver between installing via Heroic / Epicstore, and Twintail Launcher due to validation issues. Might be nicer if it was in Steam, but I’m happy I have it working.

What pervasive, continuing games are there to play in VR? I couldn’t get used to Beat Saber. HL:A was very one and done.

Indie game that pops up a name prompt in the first 5 minutes and past that is fine: UNPLAYABLE
AAA game that makes it past the title screen to gameplay at about 5fps: VERIFIED

It is not nearly so smooth and reliable as consoles like the Switch. On occasion, it outputs to the wrong audio device, or doesn’t pick up a controller. But, those are infrequent issues and I usually put up with them.
The Deck isn’t great for high-fidelity games on 1080p, but I’m okay with that since it wasn’t made for them. For docking, I like having it to play the many indie games where that’s not a strong requirement.

…I mean, yes, which is why I lead with those 4 words. I’m hoping nobody is making critical stock bets based on Lemmy comments. It’s more of a “nice possibility” to make us hopeful we can buy PCs sometime.

One vague rumor suggested the memory pricing hill might be leveling off; sadly Valve might be paying upfront for it still, but at least it won’t get worse.

Not just the Deck. Having these games work there also means I have an easier time transitioning my desktop to Linux.

Yeah, I admit I uninstalled it from my Deck after previous attempt. Maybe I’ll retry it.

I’ve mostly been playing this on desktop Linux. I think the only thing they were working on was handheld optimization and interface tweaks.
There’s still one annoying bug - on Windows, the game shows a notification if a match starts while the game is off focus. On Linux, at the moment this notification would show (if alt tabbed) the game freezes.

I am a little curious how something like Ubuntu would do on one of these gaming handhelds. Steam OS is a nicer user experience but I always wonder if it also adds any significant optimization.

I’m enjoying Marvel Midnight Suns. It has very fun combat tactics, I probably should turn up the difficulty but I love flinging soldier at each other.
I just wish it turned down the social elements a little bit. The game feels like it was a fan fiction dream of its writers and so you spend time going to a book club with Blade or having your supporting comments rejected by turbo-grump Captain Marvel. It’s also hard to absorb drama behind a premise such as “People can get perma-hypnotized.”

I’m a major advocate for GPU, and I’m currently subscribed, but even I wouldn’t say it’s a better cost ratio than Steam games.
You’d be winning more people to your argument if you at least admitted and apologized for the things you got blatantly wrong.
I own it through UPlay; tried setting up Bottles but never got AC Odyssey working. Someday I may be willing to spend more time tinkering with it.

Is that a monitor? How heavy is it? How well does it work?
A feature pretty close to this is built into Trails in the Sky (remake and original). You can set the default launch option to “Resume latest save”. When you do, hitting play on the game skips all startup logos and the main menu, just giving a quick loading screen then putting you right where you saved.
It won’t restore you to the middle of combat or a cutscene/conversation, but it makes resuming pretty flexible. It would be nice to see other games give attention to this functionality, or at least start to fight supporting technologies on the subject of launch logos.
