Most new Decky plugins never make it onto the Decky plugin store, or take a very long time. This is due to various reasons, including lengthy review processes, prohibiting AI use in plugin creation, and disagreements between plugin creators on Discord.
DeckyHub is meant to be an easier way to find and manage plugins that aren’t on the store. This comes with tradeoffs, there’s less quality control and security checks on the plugins. But it should still be really nice for access to a wider range of plugins. It’s also nice for when a steam update breaks a plugin, and you’re stuck waiting two weeks for the plugin update that fixes it.
Right now DeckyHub has 531 plugins available, vs 116 for the official Decky store.
" including lengthy review processes"
The Decky team makes sure plug-ins are safe by testing things themselves, how terrible. They just added more to their review team too. Again, these are humans who are reviewing plug-ins themselves
“prohibiting AI use in plugin creation”
False. As it stands, devs submitting to Decky have to tick that “Generative AI was NOT used to write a majority of the code I am submitting.” which means that it can be used to assist. They asked the community some time ago what to do with AI going forward, and this was their result
“and disagreements between plugin creators on Discord.”
Oh right, that asshole from like two years ago who was a racist jerk in the Decky Discord? The one who also got banned from the r/SteamDeck sub-reddit, Decky’s and two others soon after for promoting his slop so aggressively and behaving like a baby? I love how this writer phrases it like it is a regular thing. Sensationalist crap.
…feel free to use DeckyHub if you want something vibe coded with Claude. I wouldn’t trust anything unverified being installed onto your Deck.
I really appreciate the Decky team reviewing plugins, but the delay can be unfortunate, especially when you’re waiting on a fix for a broken plugin. It also means a lot of devs don’t submit their plugins at all while they’re under active development, resulting in a lot of new plugins taking months (if ever) before they show up on the store.
Thanks for the clarification on AI use, I was under the impression they had a full ban on it.
As for the NonSteamLaunchers ban, I fully respect them banning the creator from the discord, but the plugin itself was legitimately useful, and hasn’t been replaced. It getting removed from the Decky store was a loss for users I think. I remember trying to figure out what led to the ban before, and it seemed like it was just an argument between different devs. There wasn’t anything the NSL dev did/said that was racist as far as I can tell.
