I have a few of the Flashbacks and an Atari gamestation pro. These might meet your needs.

ETA: Sorry, I’m kind of rushing this morning and didn’t read your entire post. Some Flashbacks do use wired controllers. I picked up a couple at a thrift store for cheap. I’ve only used my gamestation pro on a table which makes the line of sight thing pretty easy (for me).

This is correct. I remember getting patterns from a magazine.

Also, there are flashes on-screen that could guide you if you are quick enough.

I think a lot of people would have wet dreams about opening this hardware further by not soldering the memory to the mainboard, etc.

To this day I have my Atari 2600 and the CRT TV I played on as a kid.

I wish it were easier to find cheap carts.
