This one is only ‘Lenovo’ because the name has been licensed on a cheap handheld. While in the west Lenovo as a name is associated with some kind of quality (ThinkPad, Legion Go etc), in the east it is a name used for all kinds of odd things:
- Electric shavers
- Clocks
- Baby monitors
- Vacuums
- Earbuds
The name is being used, but the hardware, manufacturing, software etc are just existing products or slightly tweaked by some randoms. 99% of this kind of thing is utter crap.
Don’t fall for the name hype. You can do do much better if you like the idea of a retro handheld! These are basically just R36S Pro’s (almost, anyway), but with a Lenovo-name-tax thrown on top. If you’re after great retro handhelds, ask me and I can recommend you far better ideas! I review them and am in way too deep into the hobby, so I am happy to chat emulators/handhelds :)
It’s probably e-waste and doesn’t work well but that shaver looks really sleek design wise.
I was surprised when I saw a ton of cheap lenovo earbuds. I thought they must be fake because they seemed to cheap
But then why put the name on it if it’s got tons of unlicensed copyrighted games? Nintendo is likely to immediately start lawsuits, so why would Lenovo want to attach their name to this?
Lenovo that we know in the west just isn’t the gigantic umbrella corp that Lenovo is worldwide (or specifically here, in the east). Their name isn’t synonymous with computing elsewhere in the world, it is synonymous with things like toothbrushes, or even blinds. The manufacturing and ROM card of this are just handled by a 3rd party company licensing their name to make this. In China they’re not getting Nintendo’s lawyers knocking.
And I think the irony of this ‘bad press’ for us is that it is only increasing the sales!
So you think Nintendo is fine with a device being sold that has tons of their games bundled without them getting a dime of it? Very odd, but maybe because it’s all “East” as you were saying it, maybe they let one-another do this kinda shit. I have no idea but it’s surprising. Especially if these devices get into the American consumer base. Shrug

Fuck them both. Lenovo is the company that keeps shipping their laptops with spyware in the firmware.
So being a Lenovo owner, I read through this article from 2022, and it doesn’t mention anything about spyware being embedded in the UEFI. It’s about a security vulnerability that was patched pretty much right away that could have given someone access to install malware, but besides the fuckup where the drivers from manufacturing were still included, there’s nothing about Lenovo hiding spyware in their firmware.
Anything more recent?
The Superfish malware from 2015 was the one I was actually thinking of, but I couldn’t find it quickly because the more recent examples were flooding the search results.
